IT’S DIFFICULT TO REACH ANY GOAL IF YOU AREN’T CLEAR ON WHAT YOUR GOAL REALLY Is. And if you feel torn about how to get there, you’re definitely not alone.

Marty a business development and communications consultant, speaker, and coach who loves to help organizations, teams, and individuals achieve their goals.

With over 20 years of experience providing leadership and strategic support to nonprofit, for profit, and public entities, Marty has a track record of supporting individuals and teams with a goal-oriented mindset. She is currently exploring ways to provide strategic and business development, team facilitation, and communications support to leaders, teams and organizations in sustainable STEAM, agriculture, and conservation sectors.

Marty started her career as a mechanical engineer and team lead in a small R&D organization in Maine before transitioning to provide marketing, sales, and business development support for engineered products.  Her work focused on collaborating with leadership, business development, marketing, and product teams to clearly articulate their goals, then helping them develop audience engagement processes and marketing materials designed to achieve those goals.

From there, her professional path leaned in to support agriculture.  Marty most recently served as Executive Director for the Vermont Cheese Council, a membership-based nonprofit where she represented the voice of the $650 Million Vermont Cheese Brand and supported the businesses that comprised that brand. When she joined the council, its leadership team expressed concerns that the organization had not made progress towards its previous strategic plan and had been experiencing financial loss for multiple years in a row.  Under Marty’s leadership the organization changed course as she fostered it through a growth phase. She expanded the staff from a single to a 4 person team; led new program development initiatives in parallel with new corporate and private partnership efforts; and developed a cash reserve capable of both (a) supporting its full operational costs for 6+ months and (b) providing critical pilot funding to support new program launches.

Science, data, and research have been involved in nearly every stage of her career.  She has worked with scientists from around the world to help them share their work and stories with industry counterparts. This included writing and communications work from her engineering days and more recently in founding the Artisan Cheesemakers Winter Conference, collaborating with cheese and milk microbiology researchers from organizations like Tufts, Penn State, and international organizations like INRAE (France). The conference drew presenters and attendees from 9 countries worldwide, and was one example of her work to develop programs that accomplish multiple goals in tandem – in this case providing industry education, while developing the nonprofit event host’s reputation both nationally and internationally. Her work today continues to focus on sustainable science and engineering, agriculture, and land conservation/outdoor access.

Marty lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and is a graduate of Skidmore College and Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering. She has served on the board of Headrest in Lebanon, New Hampshire; is currently a co-chair for the Granite State Organizational Development & Learning Roundtable in New Hampshire; and is a Steering Committee Member for the American Cheese Society’s international Guild Leader Network.

I had the pleasure of partnering often with Marty during her tenure as Executive Director of the Vermont Cheese Council. As an ally in the mission of promoting artisan cheese and serving artisan cheesemakers, I very much appreciated Marty’s thorough communication, as well as her thoughtful and creative approach to both challenges and opportunities. Always willing to share her time and wisdom with myself and other advocates of the US artisan dairy industry, Marty quickly rose to the top of my list of favorite collaborators.
